Shipping to UK Addresses
Orders placed before 3pm weekdays, 10am Saturdays will normally be on their way to you the same day and you will usually receive your order the next delivery day.
Carriage is Royal Mail First Class (with Signed-For if the order is worth over £30). But if the total of items in the order is valued over £85, you must purchase the Special Delivery option, which insures your order for up to £500.
THERE IS NO FLAT-RATE SHIPPING CHARGE HIDDEN IN OUR PRICES. We charge absolute minimum postage and packing costs for each order, which usually works out cheaper for you. Remember: there is no such thing as free shipping. It’s always added in somewhere, so look for the total price before you choose a supplier. With each order, we charge a minimal £1.20 for materials and handling, plus Royal Mail’s actual UK postage charge - we make no profit on this.
The combined Postage and Packing charge is shown on your PayPal Check Out Page before you begin the purchase process, updating with each item in or out of the basket.
Extra services are shown in detail below the selection box.
We hate it, but can’t do anything about it! The PayPal model we have to use to keep costs low for you simply can’t cope with the UK postal charges system - it’s far too complex.
If you’re only buying one or more of a single item (same colour, size, etc), the charge should be accurate. But when you buy different items in a single order, the checkout will show single-item postage for each of them, charging you too much.
WE WILL PROMPTLY REFUND EXCESS OVER THE REAL COST OF POSTAGE, bar odd pence.
To work out what the real cost is likely to be, you can do one of these three things:
You’ll need the weight of each item ordered (see left) plus the weight of packaging: the smallest weigh about 15g with labels, receipt, etc. and the largest 35g. Royal Mail’s £20 value limit is for £30 of goods, and the £50 limit for £85 of goods bought from us.
INLAND DELIVERY EXTRAS
These include delivery instructions, guaranteed next day delivery, tracking, additional insurance and sign-on-receipt. See below the box for details.
Any instructions you type into the box at the bottom of the panel below will be placed near the address on the front of your package, so that the Royal Mail post person can see them when delivering. Please keep it short, or it might not get read! You’ll need to click the ‘Delivery Options’ button to send this to us - also choose any extras you need before you click. If you don’t choose an extra, this will cost you 2p; sorry, but we can’t make the option work without making a charge of at least this.

(Ignore this box if you need nothing listed here.)
Special Delivery: confirm with us before 3.00pm to ensure next day delivery. If you’re choosing SD just for the insurance, this doesn’t matter.
Special Delivery carries insurance up to £500.
(if needed) These will be placed on the front of the packet near the address
To purchase an additional service, click on the appropriate button above then click ‘Delivery Options’. If you don’t click the ‘Add to Cart’ button, you’ll have chosen the default Royal Mail First Class service in the Basket.
We’ve found in practice that ordinary Royal Mail packages are very rarely lost. In the event of a missing or damaged order, we can claim compensation from Royal Mail for lost packages of up to about £30/£85 of goods, or any value with Special Delivery, and send you a replacement. As we don’t have to claim for either VAT or our margin, this increases the basic cover for you. (To be honest, it’s a sad truth that most losses are in multi-occupied premises, like flatted houses or University Halls, after they’ve been delivered.)
Brief details of each service
See Royal Mail for further details of each service if you’re not familiar with them. Be aware that we now have to charge VAT on all postage and special services advertised there; it’s included in our prices.
ROYAL MAIL SIGNED-FOR
SIGNED-FOR SERVICE (Recorded delivery): included in your postage charge for all except the least expensive items.
By opting for Royal Mail’s Signed For, you’re choosing to have a signature required on delivery. This might be important to you if you want a proof kept by Royal Mail that you’ve received your goods, or if you want to be sure that the package has been handed over to someone at your address, rather than simply left.
ROYAL MAIL SPECIAL DELIVERY
IMPORTANT NOTE FOR ALL SPECIAL DELIVERY SERVICES
On those occasional weekdays when our office is closed, and you’ve chosen SD for speed rather than insurance, we will post your Special Delivery order as signed-for when we return to deal with it, and immediately refund you the extra postage. If you’re in a great hurry, telephone before you order (or email and expect a response if we’re able to, within three hours) and in any case before 3pm weekdays, or 10am Saturday, to ensure that we’re there to post the package on time.
SPECIAL DELIVERY NEXT DAY is Royal Mail’s enhanced delivery service. Use SD Saturday if you’re ordering on a Friday and want it Saturday.
Up to £500 compensation if your order is damaged or lost. In other words, you have £500 insurance. This may be your main reason for ordering the Next Day service.
Guaranteed next day delivery except to some remote areas, when ordered Monday to Thursday before 3pm. If you order Saturday or Sunday, or too late on a weekday, we’ll put it in the next post for receipt the following day, or on Monday for Saturday posting (postal service holidays and outages excepted).
Guaranteed Saturday delivery when ordered on Friday before 3pm, by choosing Saturday Delivery AT EXTRA COST (postal service holidays and outages excepted).
Guaranteed Monday delivery when ordered on Friday before 3pm. These orders often arrive on Saturday anyway - but that’s not guaranteed. Also guaranteed Monday when ordered on Saturday before 10am. Later Saturday orders and Sunday orders are guaranteed to arrive on Tuesday
All these times are postal service holidays and outages excepted - see Royal Mail’s website for up-to-date information.
This delivery is tracked - we will supply you with the tracking number. If it is not delivered as promised, we will refund your postage on proof of late receipt (or on non-arrival), claiming it back from Royal Mail - or you can claim the refund from Royal Mail yourself.
Special Delivery Next Day charge:
NEXT DAY DELIVERY £4.50 extra (if ordered by 3.00pm, delivery the following day; Monday delivery if ordered on Saturday by 10.00am, Tuesday delivery if ordered later on Saturday or on Sunday).
SATURDAY DELIVERY £9.00 extra (for Friday orders by 3.00pm, of course!)
3. Choose whether the items will fit into a Large Letter (everything except Boost and Horse Boots, and orders with over 3 items) or will need to be a Small Parcel.
You can then use the tables to work out the likely postage cost for the value of your total order: under £35 value will be Standard post, up to £85 will come Signed For and anything over this value must be Special Delivery Next Day 1pm.
It’s common now for companies to offer “free shipping”. Fine, if it’s true.
Usually, though, ‘free shipping’ that’s not a special, limited offer is simply hidden in what you pay for each item. If you buy several items, each one carries the full shipping charge for a single item.
We’re up front and tell you our shipping charge: £1.20 handling and packaging, plus the actual cost to post the whole order, with no added profit for us.
When your purchase needs to be shipped to you, someone has to pay, somewhere - and it’s always you, whether or not the charge is hidden in the price.
So do look for a fair price when you shop around, but make sure that ALL costs are included. For some sellers, this means following purchase through right to the point of commitment, just before the ‘purchase’ click, to find out the total price to pay - including entering all your personal and card details. The idea is presumably that you’ll buy anyway, just to avoid going through all that again on another website.
You may want to consider whether you want to deal with a seller who works in this way.
